Red Text - needs confirmation Orange Text - direct quotes from Xondat, owner and designer of Noxary

What is this?

Noxary, a long-standing provider of mechanical keyboard kits, has gone silent. Xondat (Anthony), the owner and designer, has not been replying to support messages, his friends, or his buyers. Hundreds of buyers are now out for between $700 and $4000+ CAD worth of keyboards that might not be made or delivered. In some cases boards have been stuck in poorly described delays for years while others have allegedly arrived at the warehouse. No evidence of fulfilment has come through.

The considerable delays, lack of communication to his buyers and friends, and reluctance to provide evidence to any claims points to an “exit scam”. Intentional or otherwise buyers are entitled to product or their money back.

On August 30th, 2023 the first reports of Noxary.com going down were shared and confirmed. The site and all product listings and updates are now gone.

image

At this time, and with all the available evidence, it’s safe to assume that Noxary is over and no product will ship.

Sometime in late September the community shared that charge backs were being disputed. Xondat has said on a number of occasions (noted below) that product beyond the XRF would be refunded but has refused to elaborate on time and continues to ignore community questions. Again, no product has been shipped, most has not been made, and Noxary is effectively closed.

Board Statuses

X60 V2 & X60 AE

  • The X60 V2 preorder ran between December 20th, 2021 and December 23rd, 2021. The boards had a 10 month lead time. Original fulfilment window was October 2022.
  • The X60 AE (anniversary edition) preorder opened earlier, in October, and had a cap of 30 units. Production updates are the same for both SKU’s (standard editions and AE edition).
  • The monthly update shared on October 23rd, 2022 said “Machining is still taking place.
  • No official communication about a delay was shared until December 4th, 2022 when Xondat said “With the continued delays, it is clear the projected timeline needs to be adjusted. These are now expected to finish being produced in March. Apologies for this.
  • There were no updates or further information until February 2023.
  • On February 21st, 2023 it was announced that there were manufacturing issues. No images or updated timelines were provided. “Issues continue to plague this production run, so the decision has been made to focus on X60 V2 as this was started first. The main issue is scratches on the sides underneath the anodizing, which only becomes apparent post-anodizing. Production will continue, but I expect a minimum delay of 3 months due to the large amount of parts needing to be remanufactured.
  • Based on February’s update, the last communicated delivery date would have landed in May, 2023.
  • Please see the August 31st update below. This product was promised to be refunded, but all communication has since ended and the official site has been offline for months.

BG Valhalla

  • Options were provided to BG Valhalla buyers on October 26th, 2022. The second option said waiting for a remade unit (with the correct anodization) would take 4 months.
  • As far as buyers can tell, the second message attached is the only update we’ve gotten about progress (or lack thereof)

  • Please see the August 31st update below. This product was promised to be refunded, but all communication has since ended and the official site has been offline for months.

XRF (2022)

  • The XRF preorder originally ran between April 10th, 2022 and April 17th, 2022. It has a 6 month lead time. Original fulfilment window was October 2022.
  • The first update on a delay came during the original fulfilment window in October 2022. It read “These should finish mid-late November, and arrive to Noxary in December!
  • In the December 4th, 2022 update Xondat said “These are still being packed at our manufacturer, and should be ready any day now. Still expecting December delivery to Noxary.
  • In the January 3rd, 2023 update buyers were informed of an additional delay. “All Aluminum units have been packed, whilst Polycarbonate units are currently being packed. Due to limited space at our office, these will be dispatched to Noxary shortly after 378. Expecting these to start being fulfilled in February, once 378 fulfillment has concluded.
  • In the February 21st, 2023 update Xondat said boards had finished packing but were still waiting for a previous preorder to finish fulfilment. Importantly Xondat also said “For clarification, we have the daughterboards & relevant parts ready to go at our office.” This confirmed that delays experienced with other boards due to missing components wouldn’t happen again.
  • On April 16th, 2023 buyers got the following update: “These will be air-freighted to Noxary shortly to arrive at the start of May, as my wedding & honeymoon is at the end of April.
  • By May 31st, 2023 the boards had still not arrived, and they would continue to be held in transit until June 30th, 2023.
  • The last formal update we received before all communication ended was on July 31st, 2023 and stated that boards were still going through QC. No evidence was given that the full order of boards arrived at Noxary, and a promise to ship a specific SKU part way through the month never materialized. The last defined fulfilment date was August 15th.
  • On June 30th, 2023 Xondat shared an update with an image containing 3 boards that read: “After an agonising few weeks dealing with UPS, the XRFs finally landed at Noxary. We will be working through these as quickly as possible to get them all dispatched!”
  • The last message Xondat sent in the support server was on August 4th. It’s attached below.

  • To add to the image above, no open support messages were followed up on.

Evija (2022)

  • The Evija group commission ran between July 16th, 2022 and July 31st, 2022 of the same year. It has an 8 month lead time. Original fulfilment window was March 2023.
  • In the December 4th, 2022 update, Xondat said “No change in schedule, still expected for March.
  • In the February 21st, 2023 update we learned that they were suffering from the same issue as the X60 (which we have not seen). A delay of 3 months was given, but no additional information was provided.
  • The update on April 16th, 2023 said “Production continues with definite progress.” No images or details on progress was provided, but conversations in the official support channel implied different manufacturers might be considered.
  • On May 31st, 2023 we got this update: “Production is still ongoing. Whilst there is progress, it's slower than anticipated, as many parts have to be completely redone. There is no current ETA as it is a fluid scenario.” No additional details were provided.

image
image

  • The final update we received was on July 31st, 2023. “Production continues with the current manufacturer, however I still don't have much clarity on when they'll finish the parts as they continue to have issues producing the quality we all expect. I'm committed to delivering these boards, no matter how long it takes. No conversation was ever started with buyers to get input on this delay, and no additional information was provided.

image

  • Please see the August 31st update below. This product was promised to be refunded, but all communication has since ended and the official site has been offline for months.

380

  • The 380 preorder originally ran between December 4th, 2022 and December 18th, 2022. They had an 11 month lead time, and a 250 unit cap. Original expected delivery was November 2023.
  • It is unclear if these have even entered production. The last update from July 31st, 2023 said “These are still in the production queue, due to be manufactured after Evija.” Given that Evija has no fulfilment window, neither do these.
  • A safe assumption can be made that these boards currently do not exist in any capacity and we’re nearing the originally stated fulfilment window. There has been no communication about a delay.

image

  • On August 1st, 2023 Xondat shared a message that proposed getting refunds for the boards. There has been no communication from him since August 4th, 2023 and no support inquiries about refunds (or other open tickets) have been responded to.
  • Please see the August 31st update below. This product was promised to be refunded, but all communication has since ended and the official site has been offline for months.

August 15th, 2023 Note

On August 15th I shared the following message in the Noxary Discord server,

Hi @xondat, gonna break the rules and tag you. I don't want to speak for the other 2000ish people here so if I'm way off base y'all can yell at me or whatever. I just want my boards lol.

BG Valhalla

You’ve mentioned that these are being handled together with another board(s), but the community deserves a clearer update on when they’ll see their board. Whether they’re being produced with another buy or not, please do not ignore the oftentimes comical calls for BG Valhalla.

Expectations:

  • Progress update
  • Updated fulfilment date

X60 V2

Communication on these has been flakey and unclear. If an error was caught during production, can we see what that error looked like? If it was after completing production, where are those completed units? Given the delays, can a partial refund for a B (or less) stock unit be offered? You’ve also expressed that a separate manufacturer can be used to produce them but haven’t clarified further. Would that mean production is restarting from zero? Lastly - you said “I'm committed to delivering these boards, no matter how long it takes.” That is not what your buyers agreed to.

Expectations:

  • Clear progress update, are the boards in progress and is it with the same manufacturer? Do they know how to remedy the issue?
  • Photos of the problem that delayed the boards
  • Updated fulfilment date
  • Offer of refund if that timeline extends significantly beyond the original expectation (to many it probably already has)

Evija

Almost no communication on these besides the delay due to X60 problems. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

Expectations:

  • Progress update, how is production of these tied to production of the X60?
  • Updated fulfilment date

XRF

These have also missed a number of noted goalposts. If you’ve received all the units, how is QC going? Have you noticed anything worth sharing? You mentioned some PC units could ship at the midway point of this month - August 2023 - is that still the plan?

Expectations:

  • Photo of more than just 3 units, ideally
  • QC update
  • PC unit shipping update
  • Updated fulfilment date for the rest of the units

Support Channel

If you’re unable to handle multiple support channels (email & discord), consider closing one. (For the community, you can still voice your complaints of delays or if you're being ignored in other channels.) Perhaps swapping the support channel to a Forum Channel will make it easier to track open and closed tickets. You mentioned in your last post that catching up on these issues was “the correct” thing to do. It is, but it’s not an excuse to forgo proper updates on your other projects. Lastly, your personal life is yours. We don't need to know what's going on and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. If something is delayed because of a personal thing - so be it. Just tell us its delayed and when we can expect a resolution or the next update.

August 18th, 2023 News

Mechmarket moderation team has been invited to the official Discord to investigate.

We have not heard from Xondat and the moderators have not been able to reach him.

August 21st, 2023 Note

On August 21st I shared the following message in the Noxary Discord server,

Was going to wait a full week to follow up on this but I'm tired and don't know if an extra 24 hours will really matter.

In short, we haven't heard from @xondat and as far as I'm aware nobody has been able to reach him.

Open support tickets / messages

If you've recieved an email from Xondat feel free to let me know. I'm going off the assumption that there has been no movement here.

A note on charge backs

If you're planning on filing a charge back you can use this microsite for details. I keep meaning to update it with a couple of missing dates, I'll try to do that tonight!

Nobody is pressuring you to file a charge back. The only thing I will recommend is look into the charge back window your card issuer has so that you know when the last opportunity to do it is. Charge backs can be disputed by the merchant - it's a safe assumption that a dispute means there is evidence of progress but it isn't a guarantee.

Lastly and importantly

We don't really know anything beyond what's on that microsite. Any conjecture or speculation is really just annoying at this point. A few people shared things that can be classified as doxxing - think really hard before sharing things that don't have to do with you purchasing a keyboard. If you have something you'd like added to the site feel free to DM me.

August 31st, 2023 Update

Shortly after being mentioned in a hobby update video by Taeha, Noxary posted this update in the Discord server,

image

Since then it has continued to be radio silence and no refunds have been processed. There has also been no additional movement on the XRF boards he mentioned. Effectively the same situation as prior to this update.

September 8th, 2023 Update

On the 8th of September Jae from Prototypist shared an update with the community about fulfilling the boards for Xondat. At the time he was still missing crucial details to make this a reality and the update mentioned waiting on a response even after an additional bump.

September 17th, 2023 Jae Update

Jae followed up on the 17th.

September 25th, 2023 Jae Update

On September 25th the community received what will likely be the final update from Jae regarding XRF fulfilment.
